What does PNG to Base64 do?
PNG to Base64 converts an image file into a Base64 string — including a ready-to-use data: URL you can put straight into an <img> tag or CSS.
Base64 turns any data into plain letters and digits so it can travel safely in JSON, email, URLs or HTML. It is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it.
What you can use
A PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP or SVG image from your device.
How to use PNG to Base64
- Step 1
Choose an image or drag it onto the box.
- Step 2
The Base64 output appears straight away.
- Step 3
Copy the plain string or the data: URL.
Good to know
- Base64 makes data about a third larger: a 30 KB image becomes roughly 40 KB of text.
- Inline only small images (icons, logos under ~10 KB). Big Base64 images slow pages down because they can’t be cached separately.
Your privacy
Your file is opened and processed by your own browser — it is never uploaded. That also means big files use your device’s memory, so very large files can be slow on older phones.

Is PNG to Base64 free?
Yes. PNG to Base64 is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Is the data I paste sent to a server?
No. Conversion runs in JavaScript inside this browser tab and nothing you paste is sent or stored. Even so, avoid pasting live passwords, API keys or private customer data into any website.
Why do I get an error?
Almost always the input isn’t quite valid: a missing comma or quote in JSON, an unclosed tag in XML, or a tab in YAML. The error message shows where parsing stopped — fix that spot, or press “Load example” to compare with input that works.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers — nothing to install.
