What does Image to Base64 do?

Image to Base64 converts an image file into a Base64 string — including a ready-to-use data: URL you can put straight into an <img> tag or CSS.

Base64 turns any data into plain letters and digits so it can travel safely in JSON, email, URLs or HTML. It is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it.

Good to know

  • Base64 makes data about a third larger: a 30 KB image becomes roughly 40 KB of text.
  • Inline only small images (icons, logos under ~10 KB). Big Base64 images slow pages down because they can’t be cached separately.
